February 14th Soap Release

February has already rolled around which still baffles me and with a new month comes another new product release into the Tangerine and Me Etsy shop.

Three new soaps will be added to the shop this month and though I will not be going into detail about each one, you can find a full description and ingredient list on each soap here.

One soap that is included this month is a very local supporting soap with local, Oregonian honey as well as a soap that includes a beautiful, Egyptian loofah. So there are plenty of new and exciting soaps to look forward too.

February Releases:

– Carrot Soap

– Bee Kind Soap

– Peppermint Eucalyptus Loofah Soap

Monthly Chats | Exciting New Things

First of all I want to say that I hope all of you had a wonderful New Year’s and that the first month of 2018 is going well for you.

Last year went by so quickly so here’s to a slower and more peaceful new year for all.

Shop Talk | It’s crazy to think that Tangerine and Me has only been up and running since June of last year which makes it not even a year old.

I have learned so much and have had the opportunity to connect with so many kind shop owners and customers and feel as though I have been immensely blessed as a new Etsy seller.

Every month I feel as though I fall more in love with the process of being a self-employed, shop owner and though it’s rarely easy I enjoy the flexibility and the creative side of it all.

In 2018 I have already put into motion, the workings of a new product and cannot wait to share it with all of you as well as several other ideas that I have yet to completely focus on.

I believe that it is going to be an amazing new year and I look forward to sharing all of the little bits and pieces of the journey with you.

Slow Moments | I had wonderfully planned for last month since I wanted it to be as festive and stress free as possible and it was a good thing too since I ended up having to deal with some unexpected health issues.

These health issues have continued into January unfortunately, meaning that I wasn’t able to come out with a Valentine’s day line of soaps and my soap release for this month came out a bit late.

With my lack of ability to plan as much as I usually do, I have felt a little bit on edge and frazzled this month since time seems to slip by so quickly if not properly managed.

With all stress aside, I do still try to have time everyday where I do not watch the clock or have any certain task to accomplish. Now i just need to figure out how to turn my mind off which is much easier said then done.

Thoughts | Most of my thoughts of this month have mainly been around what I am hoping for in the new year.

As someone who is self-employed I think that we could all probably admit to comparing ourselves to one another a bit too much.

I’m the kind of person who finds it hard to celebrate their own accomplishments and I often find myself comparing what I feel is a little success to other’s bigger success.

It’s easy to forget that the definition of success is different for everyone and that someone is looking up to you and hoping to reach your level of success while you do the same to someone else and that we have all started from the bottom.

Those are the words that I tell myself whenever I start to feel less than, because success takes time as does anything else in life.

Even the tallest tree was once a seed but with time and care it slowly grew.

Monthly Chats | Rekindling Creativity and Holiday Preparations

Shop Talk | I got ahead of my schedule in October and was able to make all of my Christmas soaps several weeks earlier then planned which allowed for an earlier release date.

In fact, my Christmas soap release happened only a few days ago and if you missed the shop update you can find the new soaps here.

November has also been about brain storming new product ideas. Soap is great on its own but every shop should have a few extra options and so I have been deciding on what new additions will come first.

Finding dependable brands and online stores that provide eco-friendly and recyclable packaging has also been a priority since I want to offer beautiful but environmentally safe packaging for my products.

Slow Moments | I must admit that November was a pretty busy month for me as I hustled to get all business things prepared and ready so that December could be as stress free as possible.

December is by far my favorite month out of the year and so I did everything that I could think to do to free up as much of that time as possible.

I have taken the time to enjoy November as well, though. Especially reveling in the crisp weather and abundance of fallen leaves.

I have kept a variety of candles burning and have even adopted the cozy habit of heating up a flax seed pack to tuck into bed when its a little more chilly.

Cold weather tends to bring out my softer and slower side so I have been making those small but pleasant moments a priority.

Thoughts | I have rediscovered a few things this month and have felt a little more encouraged with the holidays coming up so soon.

The desire to get back into sketching popped up mid November and I have since dabbled in some rough sketching and it has given me a sense of calm that always makes me question why I ever stopped.

I have also started to get back into holistic health which is what I took college in and at one point was very involved with.

Life happened and I  slowly lost touch with my more holistic and healthy side and though I still practice self-care and slower living, I have finally realized that taking care of my health is also a form of self-love and care.

I have been crawling out of bed to do some gentle exercises in the chilly morning air, drinking more herbal tea, and have recently bought a book and hope to start reading more and staring at my phone less.

Black Friday Soap Sale!

I have been meaning to have a soap sale on the Etsy shop but just haven’t been able to nail down a specific date which is why a black friday sale just seemed to make sense.

This sale will go on for two days to allow for a more reasonable time period for shoppers, more details and updates will be available on the Tangerine and Me instagram page.

Holiday Soap Release

The holidays are ever so quickly approaching which means that the rush to buy presents has officially begun.

I don’t know about you but I am an early shopper who tends to buy most gifts throughout the year but forgets that they aren’t ready then proceeds to rush to finish them all off.

The holidays can be extremely stressful if we allow them to be and do not get ourselves organized ahead of time, especially if you forget about those few last minute gifts.

Handmade soap is just about the perfect option for all of your gift giving needs, whether you need a gift for that one, picky person or just another stocking stuffer to finish the holidays off.

Soap is a gift that will please just about anyone and is neither wasteful or unneeded.

You will find these new products here.

Monthly Chats | Busy Bees and New Things

Shop Talk | October was nearly as busy as last month as I decided to get ahead in work and make all of the soaps included in my Christmas soap collection as well as a large local order for December.

I also had a pretty upsetting start to this month since I tested all of my Autumn soaps only to discover that there was something wrong with two of them and that they were unsalvageable.

Making mistakes is just a part of creating things and soap making is no exception since it can be quite a complicated process with easy to make mistakes. It is very much a science experiment that you can never really predict the outcome to.

Besides that unfortunate incident I have also been working on some new, none soap related additions that should be coming to the shop in the early new year.

Things such as bath salts, perfumes, and maybe even a few more soap sets.

Slow Moments | This months slow moments were basically forced on me as I came down with a chest cold of some kind mid October.

I had to allow myself to rest a bit more and just generally take better care of myself.

Working for yourself can be incredibly helpful when your sick but it also can be a bit tedious since its not as easy as calling in sick at work.

I found myself preparing orders and making soap and responding to messages all while tired and sick and admittedly in need of a few pain pills and a lie down.

It is extremely hard to put away the laptop and to ignore the pings coming from your phone when your sick or its the end of the day and you have earned an evening off. Running your own business is hard work and no one wants to let potential opportunities slip away.

Thoughts | This month has been a pretty thoughtful and emotional month for me which isn’t very surprising as this year is slowly coming to a close and I am forced to look back and reflect on the months that seem to have flown by.

I am a very motivated person who also can lean towards the perfectionist side of things which means that more often than not I tend to focus on what I havent accomplished instead of what I have.

My Etsy shop has been open since June and all things considering, it has been fairly successful within its five months of being open.

But as someone who is trying to really make a living from it, it hasn’t returned nearly as much as I have put into it which can be disconcerting no matter how successful it is.

All in all, I guess that this is all rounding back to the topic of personal achievements that I wrote on a bit in last months, monthly chat.

Being kind to yourself is definitely a learning process not an accomplishment. It will never happen instantly or just become a permanent part of you, it is a decision that we all must make daily.

October Soap Release

My October soap release is pretty small but very fun and indulgent with some new soap designs and more autumnal inspired scents.

I hope that for this lovely season, along with your other yearly rituals, that you would consider treating yourself to a bar or two of some special Autumn inspired soaps.

As usual, the information on each type of soap is written out in my Etsy listings so head on over here if your interested in any details of these soaps.

Monthly Chats | Autumn Soaps and Personal Achievments

Shop Talk | The beginning of September was all about making all of the soap for my autumn release in October.

I had planned and planned and hoarded all of my essential oils and soap ingredients so that I would be fully stocked up for all of my holiday soaps.

It’s been a busy month of taking product photos and preparing listings ahead of time since I like the holidays to be as stress free as possible so this month has been all about preparation.

Slow Moments | Though taking product photos is part of my job and can be pretty time consuming and exhausting, I have found a love of photography through it.

I put on some music, lay out my white background and get myself into a rhythm that usually lasts for hours.

It is a unique way of me doing something that I enjoy doing but also something that is productive.

Thoughts | This month has been considerably productive for me despite roof repairs going on in my house and a laptop that likes to make up its own rules.

I have finished my line of Autumn soaps and have prepared ahead of time for my Winter collection as well and seem to be getting the hang of more in-depth, weekly planning.

Among all of those things I also received my diploma for my second natural health consultant course which has taken me a little over a year to finish.

But one thing that I have realized this month is that I am not very good at celebrating my own success.

I can see what I have accomplished and I often even promise myself a small celebration once I have reached a goal but once I am at that point I have a habit of brushing it off and setting my goal even higher. With the same promise to reward myself once it is accomplished.

This is a cycle that I have now clearly realized that I have created.

I consider my motivation and self-discipline to be some of my best attributes but they can also trip me up sometimes and turn me into someone who cannot acknowledge their own success.

And that is something that I desperately need to work on and if any of you suffer from the same mindset then I hope that you can recognize that as well and start to give yourself a pat on the back occasionally.

Why Buy Handmade Products ( When You Could Make It Yourself )

As many of you probably know by now, I own my own business where I make and sell soap.

There is an incredibly large selection of people who own their own businesses and sale their handmade goods and it is a number that is continually growing as people pursue their self employed dreams.

Now as someone who enjoys making things of all varieties I can understand people’s hesitancy to buy handmade products because I also am prone to asking myself, why buy something that I can make myself.

That being said the holidays are coming up fast and if your like me, you have already begun to start searching for those perfect Christmas presents before everything begins to sell out and the post offices begin to jam up.

Since starting my own business I have found a new appreciation for other handmade businesses and have already begun to search for presents from them rather than other commercial brand names.

And I hope that after reading this blog post on why you should too, that you will have changed your mind.

Eco Friendly | It shouldn’t come as a massive shock that buying from smaller, handmade businesses is a more eco friendly choice.

Even those shops that might not necessarily choose recyclable packaging or green materials still make a larger difference with the environment than bigger brands do.

Their items are not made with production machines or in large warehouses and more often than not, there is a much smaller amount of resources wasted.

And you will often be receiving better quality as well which means that you will get more use out of the items that you buy.

Treating Yourself | There are a lot of things that we buy as a treat for ourselves even though we could technically make those things ourselves.

The same rule goes for when you are purchasing handmade items. Sure you could probably make 90% of the things that, that person sells but you will have to buy the supplies and put aside the time and by the time your done, you will most likely be more relieved than excited that its done.

There is just something much more exciting about placing the order for something that you want and having it arrive in the mail rather than slaving over it yourself.

After all, you aren’t really treating yourself if what you are making becomes a chore rather than a pleasure.

Supporting Someone’s Dream | This is by far what I would consider to be the most important reason for buying from a small, handmade business and that is because you are supporting someone’s dream.

Lets face it, starting your own business is scary and hard and back breaking. The work never really ends and you never know quite what that pay check at the end of the month will look like.

People don’t start selling their handmade products because it’s an easy job or even very rewarding most of the time. They start their own business because they love what they do and they have a dream of having a job that is also their passion.

When you choose to buy from a small business you aren’t just giving yourself or someone you know a gift, you are giving that business owner a gift as well.

The gift of your support.

September 4th Soap Release

September’s soap release is very much just an odd compilement of the soaps that didn’t quite cure on time to be released in August.

With the holidays coming up I have been on a strict no soap making diet for the last few weeks in order to stock up on ingredients so this month’s new selection is more around the amount of soaps that I plan on introducing from now on.

If your curious about the details of any of the soaps listed here then you can hop on over to the Tangerine and Me Etsy shop where I have a much more, in-depth description of each new product.

For the time being all new soaps being released will be limited additions only, so if one catches your fancy make sure you buy it since it might not be restocked!
