Monthly Chats | Busy Bees and New Things

Shop Talk | October was nearly as busy as last month as I decided to get ahead in work and make all of the soaps included in my Christmas soap collection as well as a large local order for December.

I also had a pretty upsetting start to this month since I tested all of my Autumn soaps only to discover that there was something wrong with two of them and that they were unsalvageable.

Making mistakes is just a part of creating things and soap making is no exception since it can be quite a complicated process with easy to make mistakes. It is very much a science experiment that you can never really predict the outcome to.

Besides that unfortunate incident I have also been working on some new, none soap related additions that should be coming to the shop in the early new year.

Things such as bath salts, perfumes, and maybe even a few more soap sets.

Slow Moments | This months slow moments were basically forced on me as I came down with a chest cold of some kind mid October.

I had to allow myself to rest a bit more and just generally take better care of myself.

Working for yourself can be incredibly helpful when your sick but it also can be a bit tedious since its not as easy as calling in sick at work.

I found myself preparing orders and making soap and responding to messages all while tired and sick and admittedly in need of a few pain pills and a lie down.

It is extremely hard to put away the laptop and to ignore the pings coming from your phone when your sick or its the end of the day and you have earned an evening off. Running your own business is hard work and no one wants to let potential opportunities slip away.

Thoughts | This month has been a pretty thoughtful and emotional month for me which isn’t very surprising as this year is slowly coming to a close and I am forced to look back and reflect on the months that seem to have flown by.

I am a very motivated person who also can lean towards the perfectionist side of things which means that more often than not I tend to focus on what I havent accomplished instead of what I have.

My Etsy shop has been open since June and all things considering, it has been fairly successful within its five months of being open.

But as someone who is trying to really make a living from it, it hasn’t returned nearly as much as I have put into it which can be disconcerting no matter how successful it is.

All in all, I guess that this is all rounding back to the topic of personal achievements that I wrote on a bit in last months, monthly chat.

Being kind to yourself is definitely a learning process not an accomplishment. It will never happen instantly or just become a permanent part of you, it is a decision that we all must make daily.

Skin Care Basics | Rosehip Oil

I don’t know about any of you but when I hear the term rosehip oil, I think of a luxurious skincare product that is tinted pink and can solve all of my problems.

Now it might not take all of your problems away but it is a gorgeous skincare product that is sure to please most, if not all of you, with its wonderful skincare benefits and natural, pink glow.

Scars | Rosehip oil is most widely know for its abilities at treating scars since it is rich in anti-inflammatory properties and vitamins C and A.

It helps your skin to heal damaged areas as well as boost collagen reproduction and fade any discoloration from scarring.

The fatty acids that it naturally contains also helps to improve skin elasticity which helps unsightly scars to become less noticeable and smoother.

Anti-AgingRosehip oil is also anti-aging for many of the reasons that I have already stated above.

It boosts collagen production which helps more mature skin to regain its elasticity and firmness which in turn helps to prevent and repair wrinkles and skin sagging.

Rosehip oil is also very toning which helps to fight against uneven skin tone and age spots.

Protecting | This oil is good for many things as well as helping to protect our skin.

It contains antioxidants such as beta-carotene and lycopene which help to protect against premature aging.

The antioxidants also act as an ultra violet protector for skin as it helps to prevent and repair the damage to skin from UV rays.

It has the ability to decrease environmental damage to the skin as well as sooth and treat skin conditions such as acne, and eczema while still being a light and an easy to use oil.

Rosehip oil can be incorporated into many different skincare products but one way that I prefer to use it is as a nighttime moisturizing oil either on its own or blended with other skin-loving essential oils.

It absorbs quickly into the skin and begins to repair it from the inside out.

How I Simplify | Do’s and Don’ts

Today I wanted to write about the complicated balance of simplifying a busy, modern lifestyle.

I think we can all raise our hand and admit that we are far busier than we would like to be and if you don’t feel that way then perhaps you could write this post better than I could.

My life is busy and rushed and hectic and as long as I can remember it’s always been that way.

It has been about two years since I really began to embrace a more simplified lifestyle or have at least tried to and I have accumulated a few do’s and don’ts around what works and what doesn’t.

Do | Always plan out your weeks and days as best as you can, if you can plan out your month do that too.

Never ever rush into a new week or start your day with little to no idea of what needs to get done otherwise time and energy will be wasted.

It doesn’t matter how busy you are, everything that needs to be done can be done if it is properly planned out.

Do | Create off days and time for hobbies or other pleasurable activities.

All work and no play is not only a miserable way to live but also sets you up for a long awaited burn out.

It is so important for more simplified living to create an off day every week were work, household chores, and whatever usually takes your time is set aside for a day of pure rest and enjoyment.

It is also just as important to create a slot of time each day for something creative and enjoyable. By that I don’t mean for you to take an hour to stare blurry eyed at a tv but to take time to do something that makes your soul happy.

Whether that be taking an hour to write before bed or taking a break mid afternoon to bake a cake is yours to choose as long as it is something that you love and will look forward to doing.

Don’t | Never start your day off in a rush, even if you have work early in the morning, always try to beat the clock and find a few moments of slow movement and quite before you start your day.

If you begin your day feeling stressed and frazzled there’s a good chance that is how the entire day will continue to be.

Do | Set realistic goals for yourself. There is nothing more taxing than setting a mountain worth of goals on your chest and never being able to come even close to achieving them.

Take a day and decide what is really important to you and what you really feel you need and set those things as realistic goals to work towards.

Once those items have been marked off of your list you can always begin to work on those higher goals that you have always wanted to achieve.

Don’t | Don’t try to compete with others, just don’t.

Nobody’s lifestyle is perfect and no fad or expectations of others are worth throwing your peace of mind away for.

Some people will not understand your desire for a simpler life and that is okay, you have your path and they have theirs and there is no point in trying to compete with someone who has different goals in life than you do.

A simplified lifestyle isn’t always easy to achieve but it is well worth the effort.

Skin Care Basics | Lavender

Lavender is one of those scents that is always a crowd pleaser with its musky, floral notes and the ability to spread calm to whomever manages to get a whiff of it.

There are quite a few more wonderful benefits to lavender than just its pleasant scent, however, and today I thought I’d talk more about those benefits.

Anti-Aging | Lavender has a treasure trove of benefits for your skin and one of the best is its ability to be a natural anti-aging remedy.

It is naturally healing, toning, anti-inflammatory, and stimulating, all of which help to battle against aging skin.

Lavender stimulates new cellular growth and is incredibly diverse since it plays well with all skin types, even skin problems such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Healing | I have already briefly mentioned lavender’s healing abilities but it can go much deeper than just healing acne or pesky break outs.

Lavender is amazing at soothing sunburns, swelling, and even bug bites. It can be used as a rub for sore and stiff muscles and joints and as a headache remedy when applied to the temples.

Lavender oil is one of the few essential oils that is considered safe to use undiluted and can be applied straight to minor cuts and scrapes and bruises, even new or infected piercings.

Relaxing | The fact that the scent of lavender is relaxing to most is not a new discovery by any means but perhaps you haven’t been using it in the ways that you could be.

Lavender promotes restful sleep so you can make it into a relaxing habit of applying a few drops of lavender oil to your temples or the bottoms of your feet.

If you partake in yoga, Pilates, or meditation remember to bring the scent of lavender with you to further the benefits of what you are doing.

Add a few drops of lavender oil to your nighttime moisturizer or lotion to promote a calming and enjoyable mood before you go to bed. You can even go so far as to make a lavender spray to mist your room and sheets with.

Make sure you go and check out my last post where I talk all about what I got up to during the month of September.
